Wrexam sort of doing to Charlton what Charlton did to us last week
Eze scores a cracker in the FA cup semi final.
You were trying to belittle the result. For some reason.
Luton is a funny one. From a footballing standpoint absolutely hilarious if they go down, generational capitulation like Sunderland. On the other hand Bloomfield is their manager and I want him to succeed. They’d also be like Brum and probably storm league one which wouldn’t be fun for us.
Yet again you try to presume what I was thinking and yet again you’re wrong.
To be fair, it did come across as downplaying the achievement. I mean, you could also have mentioned that it was against a team desperately trying to cling on to a playoff spot, or that it was the first time in over two years that Luton have won three in a row.
To be objective, Luton were 20th when MB took over and are 21st now. Honestly he has underperformed expectations there. If he keeps them up he should at least start next season. If results go against them next weekend I doubt he will.
How is me quoting some stats any different to your quoting the BBC stats for the game, should you have mentioned the red cards and time Luton spent with a man advantage to not upplay the achievement. It works both ways and I was merely bringing context to those that didn’t realise the red card situation, that does not belittle the achievement.
On this very thread less than a day ago I praise Matt for his efforts at Luton after his trip abroad.
Incidentally I also sponsored Matt for many years as a player with a colleague and we are still in contact with him as a result of that sponsorship.
Wrexham showing what happens if you attack Charlton.
If we have them in the playoff semis (as it stands) then this is the blueprint to work from. However, I expect to see rubbish, defensive football and us limping into the off-season.
If you think they’re going to sack a manager that’s lost one in nine now he’s got things under control, I think you’re very much mistaken.
That is totally misleading statement. Blooms last 11 games have resulted in 6 wins 3 draws and two defeats. Spread over a season that form would have got them in the play offs.
Bloomfield has W6, D6 and L7 (24pts from 19) with the team that Edwards had W7, D4, L15 (25 pts from 26).
Also, his last 11 games he’s Won 6, Drawn 3 and lost 2. So, after a horrendous start of not winning any of his first 8 games, he’s had an impressive turnaround.
It could still all go wrong next weekend but they have an outside chance of finishing 17th. I’m really pleased for him and he showed just what a great human he is with Kaminski this week following the death of his father.
That Crystal Palace shirt
After today’s disappointment, I can take some solace in the joy of other team’s success, none more than Brackley Town, who have finally won promotion from National North, afters years of play-off misery. They did what they had to do against Farsley, a comfortable 5-0 win, and Kiddy surprisingly lost 2-1 at Southport. I watch Brackley every now and then, a club with a small ground and small support, averaging 800-900. It’s going to be tough in the top level, I hope they survive.
In National South, the top seven remained in the same order, with Truro five up after 30 minutes against St Albans, who are relegated after 12 years in this division.
There was an exciting outcome in the Isthmian Premier, with Horsham beating Hashtag United 5-1 at home, to swing GD and win the title by one goal, after Billericay won 4-2 at home to Cheshunt.
As their Twitter account noted, yay for the Truro/Carlisle fixture being very real next season.
What are the odds on the super computer pulling out this fixture as the first game of the season.
All bad feelings aside, Luton staying up would enable me personally to gain some closure, as it could be argued Bloom’s career would then be ahead of schedule as an established Champo manager for next season. It does not excuse Rice sabotaging our dream season, but it would help immensely to know things are set up for Matt now. As such, I am genuinely nervous for the West Brom game, as the short to medium term trajectory of MB’s career could hinge on it.
They didn’t really though. This is a very post-hoc take. This was the timeline of the match, plus the stats:
Wrexham were just exceptionally clinical yesterday, as they have been all season. And Okwonkwo again made two or three very important saves, as he has done in most games this season.
You’ve got to hand it to Wrexham because as others have said, they don’t pass the eye test or stats test, but they’ve been nearly faultless in both boxes across the season
On that note, here is the current season’s xG table:
We’ve largely matched expectations overall. Wrexham and Birmingham have been clinical up top and had goalkeepers in top form, so they’ve massively exceeded what would be expected. Look at Reading too
When Bloomfield left, we’d outperformed our xG by a country mile. Since then, we’ve hugely underperformed it. I’d say a HUGE part of that is Kone’s remarkable loss of form and confidence
