We got the first goal against Stockport.
The club site doesn’t mention whether one can buy on the gate.
Not that it matters in the end but I feel that had we scored that penalty we’d have won that game comfortably. We were playing well up until then but that got their crowd right back into it and that lifted their players.
I just have a sneaky feeling that our lads will be really really up for Sunday after what happened the other week. People can talk about line ups, formations, tactics all day long but the truth is if you run more and fight harder than the opposition it gives you a great chance of winning the game.
I’m fascinated to see the first five or ten minutes of Sunday’s game. I’m sounding like a bit of a dinosaur but I think a few crunching challenges and a bit of direct football to put their defence under pressure early doors and it’s game on. It gets our crowd into it and everything goes from there.
I reckon by 18:40 on Sunday we’ll have a decent idea of how the game is going to pan out
It looked more like their attacking subs and tactical changes, combined with us deciding to put everyone behind the ball and sub off any creativity that lifted their players.
Agree we need to get stuck into them quickly though, but we’ve seen a few times under Dodds the confidence drain from the players when that doesn’t work.
In second half of season you’ve been best when playing to a pattern and keeping it tight. You don’t concede you cannot lose.
Play Offs aren’t for pretty football.
You have as good a chance as anyone.
Charlton fan here.
Take no notice of the cesspit that is twitter.
Form historically does show but this is league 1 football and this is Charlton, if there’s a team that can screw it up it’s us.
Would be happy with a draw and take it back to a packed Valley. Enjoy the evening at our place, it really is a special place to watch football when it’s full.
Don’t
It’s one thing to keep a clean sheet at home to Bristol Rovers or Stevenage, quite another to atrltempt tjat against not sh*t teams.
And in every game agajnst a decent side we did try and keep it tight. We just didn’t actually do that.
Disagree - we were very solid against both Wrexham and Birmingham (the latter with 10 men). Plus Huddersfield, Bolton - sure there are others I’m forgetting.
That Wrexham game is the one that I keep thinking back to. It was such a nothing game before the medical emergency, then we have that amazing chance from a corner and one minute later the ball is in the back of our net. Dodds should be using that game to drill belief back into the players - we were solid that day (if unexciting) and very unlucky to lose. It’s the performance we need to try and repeat on Sunday - with the hope of stealing a win to take to the Valley when our chances inevitably come.
The longer we can keep the tie at 0-0 or better, the much better our chances look.
Well that’s just put me off coming on Sunday.
You’re right that we were solid against Wrexham. But we were both set up not to lose.
They created nothing. We created nothing.
A deflected shot wins the game.
The danger of setting up for a clean sheet with the hope of nicking a goal for a 1-0.
Can work against dross and away to sides that had to recently sack their manager due to cratering form, confidence and belief where the home crowd will turn hostile if you just frustrate them.
That’s not home to Charlton.
Play-offs might not be for pretty - in Wycombe terms, ‘controlled’ - football, but the reality is we probably need to score more than one goal over 180+ minutes to win the tie.
For that to happen, something has to change, either tactically, through a bit of luck, individual brilliance, or a combination of all the above.
I’m starting to get excited and nervous in equal measure. I just hope we just give a good account of ourselves.
Normally a semi would give me a semi but this one is leaving me feeling detached.
Something about semi-detached. Don’t actually post this drivel you fool!!!
Sunderland lost five games in a row and won away at Coventry tonight following a tactical overhaul. Believe.
I struggled to watch the whole Dodds interview,
He’s getting better. It took MB a while to become a leader of men.
Hopefully Sunday won’t be an atrocity exhibition. Christ I’m struggling tonight.
I did watch the interview and Dudds umming and erring doesn’t fill one with confidence. What I’m finding alarming is that Phil Catchpole’s performance as an interviewer is dropping off. His normal punchy and cheeky chappie conversation style seems to be withdrawn and stifled lately. I do hope the fans lack of enthusiasm hasn’t affected him. Or is he worried that he literally will be carrying 3CR’s sporting coverage this weekend. Obviously, after they’ve given out the local netball and cricket results.
I’m hoping some fair-weather fans have a few beers tonight and think ‘f*ck it”, I’ll go to AP on Sunday. The excitement is definitely building.
