Not sure we have learned anything new, the other three teams are in good form, attacking threats and bang up for it. Much improved performances at the back and up front required tomorrow.
Dodds came to us as with a reputation as an astute reader of the game and a man-motivator. Tomorrow will show us definitively if that’s the case or not. Play the same turgid football we’ve seen recently, lose, and I honestly can’t see any likelihood of him ever succeeding at head-coaching. But we all love a redemption arc, a Hollywood ending. Show us that we’ve appointed a wylie, capable tactician; get our strong squad playing with heart and their heads up, and Dodds can easily go from zero to hero. Tomorrow is his chance. Seize it, man. Seize it!
I think we learned that Stockport are far too good for us!
Although it’s not exactly ancient history since Stockport learnt that we were far too good for them.
(History doesn’t always repeat itself of course.)
To quote the honourable Nigel Southgate in his recent impressive Richard Dimbleby memorial speech, belief and resilience are key factors in football and in life. Unfortunately, those qualities haven’t been much in evidence recently and, sadly, last Saturday was a rather extreme case in point.
But I take heart from the fact that, for most of the match, we had looked the better side.
We need to take that thought into the match tomorrow evening.
To be fair, we had a competent positive manager when we last beat Stockport! Unfortunately we don’t have that now.
I’d settle for still being in with a shout in the second leg after tomorrow night. To do that we will have to have shown some character and resistance, and that’s what we’re about. Do it for Josh, if no one else.
From what I can guage on the forums, Lloyd Jones is very doubtful for tomorrow. And some concerns over the fitness of Alex Mitchell and Luke Berry.
Charlton are speculating about Kone being fit as opposed to him being rested for ‘precautions’ along with Cam last week.
I’m expecting King to come out an absolute animal and looking forward to a goal in the away end to quieten down their support, which I have to admit, was the best away supporters at AP this year for me.
It’s been a weird season, in August I never thought we’d be in the playoffs, yet it seems to be a disappointment that we are. However I’m up for the next two games and hope everybody gets behind the players and MD and we get to Wembley. The autopsy can start whenever the season ends, COYB!!
Taking a lot of their comments with a pinch of salt. They are arguing that as Wycombe only had five subs last Saturday and Humphreys and Kone were rested it must mean they were injured! Unfortunately we actually had seven subs last Saturday!
Oh agreed. I think some of the Charlton fans are actually embarrassed about how a select few are posting. But we all have our fair share of idiots. I think the nerves are settling in for both sides. And so it should. It’s cup football now.
Spontaneous human combustion?
Rob’s left over fireworks.
Bring back the flaming bins. Actually, don’t.
Relax..I just bought 2 tickets .
Is that a nailed on win then? I feel better already.
Thought it was 1430.
I reckon this has been Dodds’ gameplan all along. Lead everyone into false pretences and walk through the playoffs with a tactical, attacking masterclass.
I’m just picturing the players holding him aloft at Wembley whilst he’s chewing gum mid-air.
Don’t have the desire to trawl through all of the build-up on the Charlton forum but they seem to be upset about a video put out by the club featuring a social media ‘influencer’. It was on X/Twitter, of course.
Other than that, someone quoted a stat that Charlton scored the first goal in 23 of their 46 league games, winning 22 of them. So there’s also that. But this is also the play-offs so c’mon Wycombe!
And interupt Premier League football games… don’t be silly!
