I highly doubt anyone was radicalised by Widdicombe. She didnt seem to be that charismatic. Always though most thought she was a crank.

My point is that if we start treating someone’s religious beliefs as morally equivalent to murder, it becomes much easier for people to justify violence against them.
That’s why I think there’s an important distinction between holding a view you disagree with and actually harming people.

I only use that expression when someone’s comments come across as a bit up themselves. I would never use it about any of your comments. I know you better than that. You are better than that.

I’ve only just got back, scroll wise, to your response to my anecdotal comments. You have redacted a large portion of my post which, at the time, was the only one referring in any detail to the late Ann Widdecombe.
I have learned a huge amount more in the meantime as a result of listening to the substantial coverage on LBC involving the experience of politicians and others of all political, philosophical, religious and sexual persuasions who had worked, argued, socialised and in a good few cases benefited from the generosity (of spirit or financially) of the woman.
This is all getting a bit “Hitler was kind to dogs”. Everybody has some traits that are good and some traits that are bad. I’m not going to mourn someone who spent decades trying to make life worse for LGBTQ+ people. I wouldn’t mourn anyone who spent so much of their oxygen on oppressing others. But of course, you’re all free to eulogise her for it.
No eulogising from me. Just trying to act as a bit of a counterbalance to so much of the vitriolic stuff which many on here have been manifesting.

The problem with Thatchell & the rest of his “be kind” brigade is that it is meant as be kind to us while we treat you like shit.
I have never had much time for him either as I consider him to be very much a bandwagon jumper & opportunist especially so he can detract from his comments regarding MAPs (paedophiles)

From what I can tell, the “Be Kind” people tried to get people to be kind (after at least one high profile celeb suicide). And then were told “fuck your feelings” and then decided that if that was the case, they will stop being kind.
Then the other side started going, wtf, I thought you were the “Be kind” people, why are you being mean? And so now the “be kind” people are the ones saying “fuck your feelings”.

If you really want to know, go look them up. What she said is in the on the record and while I have no interest in dragging them up on a football politics forum before she’s even been buried, I also don’t want people to forget the horrible things she has said supported - or indeed not supported - either.
You wouldn’t forget the things Saville did because he also did a lot of charity work.
You wouldn’t forget the things Harris did because you cried about a dog on animal hospital.
Don’t forget the stigma and hurt she put on the lgbt community because she was thrown around like a mop on strictly.
