They can be acting within certain interpretations of Islam, where marriage and maturity are viewed differently from the Western concept of consent.

That’s a different point. You asked why their views on age of consent would be linked to being Muslim, and I was explaining why.
No, you are just putting it together to blame it in them being Muslims rather than just being a bunch of awful people. Raping and grooming young kids isnt due to religion, its due to being awful people.

They used religion as an excuse. That’s not my opinion, that has already been established.
Again, I’m afraid religion is relevant if certain interpretations teach that a girl can marry once she reaches puberty.
This is what always happens. While the blame of the acts is 100% on those that carry out the acts - there needs to be more responsibility landed on the shoulders of those that made these girls vulnerable targets in the first place and making sure they were being looked after correctly.
They were systematically let down by parents, care givers and care providers, local authorities and police well before they were then targeted - not primarily because they were white British girls but because they were primarily venerable people that society had let down and happened to be white and British. They picked by those monsters because they knew no one would care or believe them even if they did speak out. And they were right.
But of course, it’s easy to just blame the Muslims and also not reflect on what we can do as a society to make sure women and girls aren’t left in vernerble positions

Puts a whole new spin on that lovely nativity story you sit down and watch kids do every Christmas and then you realise the age of the lead female actress isn’t actually that far out.
Edit; that was a rhetorical question btw. One to point out that if you are going to use the age that a girl can marry from within one religion, makes sure you know the details of perhaps the most famous and most favourite stories the Christian congregation take for granted.
The answer is between 12 and 16 btw. So once she had hit puberty.
Can’t for the life of me think why someone might want to claim it was a miracle if they got a 12 year old pregnant and wanted to hide that fact. But I guess that’s just modern day thinking.

Why, you don’t have to read the posts on this debate. You are not an administrator of this forum (as far as I am aware).
Surely those primarily responsible for this debate couldn’t possibly just agree to disagree. That wouldn’t allow certain individuals on both sides to continue to flaunt just how learned they are and/or display their moral superiority.
Talking about religion and politics in ‘public’ really doesn’t get you anywhere - a lesson most people have learned by early adulthood. But talking about both together really is beyond the pale. Invariably, it just makes the individual sound like an insufferably pompous character.
Just hope against hope you don’t have to sit next to one of these people at a party. You just might end up like the lady in a particularly famous scene from Airplane.
