Reading Turmoil

@otter87 Fair play to you for apologising for the earlier post, what’s happening at Reading is no laughing matter. Judging by some of the utterly embarrassing chanting from some of the kids away at Reading, some people have a lot to learn about how football, and world in general works.

As you say, we could be in a very similar (if not worse) position in the coming years should Lomtadze decide to pull the plug, or find himself unable to cover our bills.
As for his ambitions, all we have to go on is his desire to make data analysis and youth development the central USPs of the club to gain an advantage. We know nothing about whether he thinks promotion to the Championship helps his personal goals strategically or not.

The biggest problem with Dai Yongge appears to be his wealth was on paper rather than liquid. He appears to have borrowed heavily against paper assets and ended up in serious bother.
I don’t know how much of Lomtadze’s net worth is liquid, hopefully it would be far healthier amount than was the case with Dai Yongge.

Every time I read posts on this thread I think about the German ownership model and wish a political party was brave enough, sensible enough to promise to introduce something along those lines, perhaps with a phased introduction.
Just one caveat - @railwaybeth does tell me I should listen / read some German commentary on their ownership model.

Apologises accepted, @Otter87. Sorry, if I didn’t realise it was a tongue in cheek comment, but as you can guess the situation is no laughing matter to me. We shake hands and move on and hope we can get back to banter, without any misunderstandings, in the very near future.

Not actually replying to a comment. Just trying to get to grips with what seems to be a new procedure , ironically probably introduced because people were struggling with the requirement to tap a circular icon in the reply box in order to bring down the post to which they wanted to respond.

People forget to quickly we are only ever one ownership fall out from needing the kinds of help and protections that Reading haven’t had. Could happen to any club.

Germans I’ve spoken to about it are generally very proud of their club ownership rules, though this is a small sample size of St Pauli and Union Berlin fans / staff.

German football is by no means perfect, but the 50+1 model didn’t fall out of the sky, it was won through years of hard work and organisation by football supporters of all clubs coming together.
We simply do not have that level of consciousness among the majority of fans in this country, until we do any such legislation brought in from above will be undermined by clubs riding roughshod over it unless fans take a united stand to protect it.

We had a local owner in Steve “don’t worry about the money” Hayes. That went well didn’t it!

EFL have granted further extension to 5th May “as progress is being made”.

Terms now agreed, according to the BBC.

Reading Football Club can confirm further progress has been made towards the sale of the club, with the transaction including the Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Park Training Facility. As a result, The EFL has agreed for a further extension until May 5th for the transaction to be completed.

The terms of the deal have been agreed between the club’s current owner Mr Dai and the buyer, whose identity must remain confidential at this stage. Both parties will now work to complete the necessary steps to complete the takeover.

The buying party will be supporting the club’s immediate financial obligations until the transaction is complete, and as such, day-to-day running of the club will be unaffected.

The club would like to thank all supporters, staff, and players for their contribution to the club in recent times. The performance at First Team and Academy level has been outstanding and all attention is on supporting the teams to finish the season strongly.
Club statement above. Seems hopeful, but haven’t we been at this point before.
Further communication regarding next steps will be issued once appropriate**.**
Club statement above. Seems hopeful. but haven’t we ben at this point before? So, if it is signed off by May 5th. we may meet in the playoffs. Hopefully, though, you will make it to second spot and we play Hollywood FC instead.

Is it Bobby C?

Because if it isn’t Bobby C or someone prepared to stump up the escrow cash at the risk of losing it then this is lovely but nothing new.
The EFL weren’t ever going to throw Reading out mid season if they can play on as it benefits nobody but still some distance to run.

It’s Bobby C.

With Lommy’s money?

If it turns out that two besties, Robby and Lommy, own neighbouring football clubs then…well, I don’t know but I suspect it might get messy.

Would rather meet you guys in the playoffs than Charlton !
Joking aside - wishing you guys all the best, I don’t want see the demise of Reading and if we do happen to end up in the playoffs with your good selves - I would love to buy you a beer !

Thanks, But the last time I had an alcoholic drink was about 57 years ago. I got married and decided I had better things to spend my money on, even more so when kids came along. Must have worked as we are still married. If we are both in the playoffs, I will wish you good luck with a nice cup of tea whilst I am sitting in my armchair listening to the match!
