Think people are misunderstanding Norris a bit. Yes, he’s made mistakes, but some fans seem obsessed with him. I’ve seen with my own eyes him applauding the fans in the terrace before kick-off when were singing , he just comes across as naturally grumpy after games.

It shouldn’t need Duff, Grimmer or Leahy constantly explaining that he’s a valued member of the squad, as well as a dad and a husband, for people to ease off a bit. Its actually ott

For his own sanity, if I was him, I’d probably reject the deal. The stats gave him top 3 clean sheets to game ratio.

If that’s his body language but he’s still performing well, which the league stats suggest he is, then Duff should keep him if he’s in his plans. Before joining us he’d already played at bigger clubs and won promotion from this division.

I also think, after the money the board has invested into infrastructure and the squad following the Kone sale, a lot of players will be persevered with. I can easily see Fink, Van Sass, Taylor and Allen all still being here next season.

The most likely exits are probably Tilley, Berry and Lowry, if anyone is willing to pay even small fees and take them on. Otherwise it could be another Hartridge situation where someone only leaves after a contract termination or another loan.

Realistically, I think we’re a right-back, left-back, winger and striker short unless there are major departures from the contracted players. I wouldn’t expect huge turnover again.

And whether Grimmer, Leahy or Norris are starters next season or not, you still need experienced players around academy lads and young pros coming into the first team.

Sad to see people already suggesting “rip it up and sign 15 players again.” If the board has learned that too much change hurts a squad, why haven’t some fans?

We clearly need another couple of forwards, a few other areas need strengthening, but agree that any major reshuffle would be daft and would likely set us back another year.

The Norris contract offer is a surprise. Think an amicable parting of ways would be best for both parties. I do wonder if perhaps it’s a contract offer triggered by appearances that’s being discussed, rather than a new offer?

Very telling

Still dont get the Sharmal George signing, Bloomfield obviously didnt fancy him, as he didnt play him, and then went with the injured goalie ( what was his name?, who started as number 1 last season) then he was gone.

All really bizarre.

I’m not bothered about Norris’s lack of clapping, it’s more his lack of catching.

This is the exact same as last season when we had reported to offer Low a contract even tho we all knew he had his sights set for somewhere else. They aren’t factually wrong when they say they have offered him a contract, its better than saying we have released him.

Also by us stating that he’s been offered a contract, I believe that stops clubs “officially” trying to give him a contract even tho we know his agent will be very busy!

Good point about appearances possibly triggering an option in the players favor. May well be the case. Players are sometimes the right ‘fit’ for a club and sometimes they aren’t. I’d put Norris in the latter category, so surprised it the club offered an extension.

And conceding some of the more farcical goals we’ve conceded in recent seasons.

Though Van Sas managing to turn a bad back pass that he should have just left to go out for a corner into a near open goal tap in for the attacker was up there with any Norrisims.

It’s quite possible that Norris has been offered a crap deal by us to sit on the bench, just because he has been offered a deal it doesn’t mean it’s on the same terms or better. I don’t see Van sass commanding a fist team jersey any time soon at this level

Can’t blame Fred (or his agent) for looking to maximise his earnings - played at a higher level and prob still good enough to do so. Now in the final third of his career so a 3 year deal on good money, Championship if poss, makes sense for his financial security

What would the point of that be though when we could just release him and look elsewhere with a no doubt substantial wage saved?!

Don’t stress , this was fake… lets give the management this summer and a third of next season  before further attacking - At the Recent Trust Forum Rice apologised…let’s see if they learn by past mistakes like SOME of us all try to

Wasn’t that so we got a few when he signed elsewhere? I think because he’d spent a few seasons with us under a certain age or something.

Can anybody with a degree in Quantum Physics explain how our squad can be created. Ie, nos of players over 21, under 21, overseas players, etc.

I know it’s been discussed on the forum before but a definitive answer would help, and if possible, be pinned for future reference. TIA.

You can only have 22 outfield players aged over 21

(There’s something else about homegrown players too but let’s ignore that)

For max it was game over after his howler… he was trying to be clever but it fucked up. I still can’t forgive Norris for standing like a statue and not bothering to even try after the howler that wasn’t his fault that you all know which one I mean.

Max on his day was better than van was or Norris.

Max was unwise but had that fool ref trying to make a point when it was very obviously a foul on him.

Norris just makes a lot of mistakes and that one you mention where he runs out and just doesn’t even bother looking behind him, as other defenders blast themselves to try and recover the hopeless was a real bad look
