With regards to Norris, I think it was very telling that Duff didn’t play him in the last game of the season. Almost like he’s already told the club he’s leaving. Fred played because we had very few options up front, if we had more available, I’m not sure he would have featured
I know there were questions about his attitude, but i hope we give Berry a good look in pre-season. Hopefully a year older and wiser he’ll be able to contribute.

My reasoning is that he continued to pick him (and also that he’s been offered a new contract - albeit we don’t know any details but if he didn’t rate him at all I’m not sure we would have offered him anything

Instead of worded as being offered a contract.
The assumption is the manager / Rice gang rate him and want him to stay. The idea we are either offering him a poor deal to be 2nd choice or even sillier offering a poor deal so he can use it as collateral elsewhere are what the kids I believe would call “copium”.
Best bet is another foolish club storming in with a higher value offer and luring him away.
I’m saying a club and player can agree an initial contract but the club can then have the sole decision to trigger an extra year. That scenario doesn’t rely on the player giving an extra agreement bar the initial contract they signed.
If there is a written agreement in a contract then it’ll be triggered by 2 things automatically.
The club can trigger an automatic extension. Most of the time, its a year extension but for youth players, it can be up to 3yrs and the terms, conditions & wage will remain the same. The club and player can negotiate increases if they want to.
A contract’s term is automatically extended if conditions have been met in the last year of their contract. Appearences, goals, assists etc
If the club had said “The offer of a contract extension has been triggered, based on appearances, and Norris is still deciding whether to accept the terms or not”, could we agree that’s a possibility?
If that’s true then I suspect he’s looking into 1) The cost it would take to buy him out & 2) That he knows he has a deal somewhere else before making that decision
However, I’m with @Malone. He’s either hoping another club will offer him a deal or has signed another deal and he’s signed an NDA with them, he’s keeping the club & public in the dark
