As I said football has its own work permit rules. Kone wouldn’t have got a work permit to play football in this country. Hence why he didn’t sign for any club until January 2024.
Football doesnt have any different rules, players need to meet the criteria laid out by the home office.
If Kone had rights to live and work in the Uk, that is his work permit. If he didnt have those rights, and was still claiming asylum he wouldnt be able to work, but can live.
When granted indefinite he doesnt need another visa.
Football Visa UK & ESC Work Permit Explained | DavidsonMorris this is interesting but boring aswell
But glad weve moved on from the hes been here 5 years bit.
My assumption, is he has indefinite leave, initially thought it was an asylum seeker, as per the media reports. But naybe tgey got him another type of visa.
Trying to rationalise the facts with Kone.
We understand Kone could not play at a higher level than Newnham for an extended period. That really can only mean that his immigration status in the UK at the time did not give him permission to work.
It is hard to think of an immigration status he could have held at that time that would not allow him to work apart from a) asylum b) student (who can work limited hours).
The asylum system works that on arrival you become an asylum seeker and are not allowed to work. If your asylum application is accepted , you become a refugee and are allowed to work. You hold this status for a minimum of five years from becoming a refugee. At any time the Government may revoke this status if circumstances change and it is now considered safe to return to home country.
After at least five years of being a refugee, they can then apply for indefinite leave to remain which means almost invariably they have the right to stay for the rest of their lives.
After a further minimum year of having ILR, they can apply for British Citizenship. This has little practical benefit although can help with travel and a feeling of security.
If Kone is following this path, he would currently be a refugee.
This would seem the most likely situation for Kone but if that was the case and his application for asylum was based on his sexuality, given that refugee status can be revoked , it would be extremely unwise to be photographed on the pitch with girlfriend and baby and after claiming it was unsafe to be in his home country, extremely unwise to fly home to play football. That would tend to suggest he is not in fact now a refugee.
I don’t think there is any evidence that he was here as a student and if he was it is not easy to get a work visa from there. This doesn’t feel a likely explanation.
So what could be Kone’s situation.
There are specific football visas. Most players come in under international sportsperson visa but Kone wouldn’t qualify for that. There is a route for promising players - the ESC route. Even they though need certain experience - a certain number of international youth appearances which Kone doesn’t have. This explains. Football Visa UK & ESC Work Permit Explained | DavidsonMorris.
So the DevC theory to try to explain this is as follows. Kone was originally here as an asylum seeker. That application was never determined. Meanwhile WWFC sought to persuade the Home Office to exceptionally give him an ESC visa arguing that his homeless World Cup experience evidenced potential and his asylum seeker experience prevented him accruing international youth caps that he otherwise would have gained. The Home Office bought it and that is his current status.
Am I right? Who knows? But struggling to think of a better explanation.
I’m tempted to start a thread devoted to discussing the immigration status of Richard Kone, just so I don’t keep checking back here when I see 27 new posts only to find not a single transfer rumour however ludicrous it is
Woeful, dreadful stuff
Have some fucking respect for a man who deserves far far better than to have his private life picked apart by an internet troll who knows absolutely nothing about it but is happy to speculate anyway
Oh dear, eric. You seem to like nothing else beyond personally attacking people. I hope you are OK.
There was nothing remotely disrespectful about my post. Trying to understand the status of a WWFC player as it affects his continued employment at WWFC, why he could not be employed earlier and potential constraints on transfer of employment to other clubs feels entirely legitimate to me.
Give it a rest and leave the bloke alone
It’s none of your business
“Who knows?”
I preferred his views on the employment of murderers, paedos etc as plumbers. I agree Kone’s personal life is his own business other than which he chooses to reveal.
bloomfield comes to your house to replace a shower but he fucks off halfway through and is replaced by dodds…thoughts?
Turn the water off.
for fuck’s sake, doddsy, you’ve installed a bath…
A bidet more like…to keep things clean at the back…
If the tiles do not match and the water pressure is significantly reduced I’m kicking off
Ah yes, Bayo. I had forgotten your outrage and seemingly blissful ignorance that people who have finished their time in prison then go on to do jobs in the outside world. Quite extraordinary.
If Joey Barton offers to install my shower I will politely decline and send him round to your gaff!
Can tell it is the off-season…
Seriously when do our friendlies start? I ask as I am reduced to watching Men’s U19 & U21 as well as Women’s U19 Euros for my footie fix
So far we have friendlies confirmed with Sutton (July 15), Cheltenham (July 19) and Barnet (July 22).
Only a month left!
I would run a bath to avoid the inevitable shower of shit.
