Rumour Mill

As the Gasroom and memories of Sutton the player remind me,Scottish football is terrible. Even though Kone can’t score against Sutton the team he should have no problem in banging in 30plus north of the border.

Take the cash Dan and let Kone become the King in the North.

Spend the cash Dan on teeny tiny centre backs.

I know Gregory had a spell playing Ryan in a back 3, but I can’t recall them as a back 2.

And as good as Ryan was all round, the likes of Bradley and Low are about as good as you get in the air. Evans too.

Spend the cash on an experienced manager that can get these players playing proper football.

Some people thought last week it seemed to be 100% true Pete Couhig got fired because they heard something from a single source they trusted….
[/quote]

I can’t speak to Couhig, but I know sources cited regarding the Blooms fiasco included, at the very least:

  1. Matt Bloomfield himself
  2. Current players
  3. A recent ex-player absolutely beloved on here
  4. A Trust high-up
  5. A non-Wycombe fan positioned very close to Dan Rice with no bias for or against Bloomfield, just observing

I am sure there are many more too. I agree about one source potentially being fallible (and there are sources now retroactively running cover for Rice, I would posit), but the sheet number and breadth of agreement among the above is remarkable.

It certainly was a dark period in gasroom history reading the constant in fighting.

But on a lighter level it was comedy that a chief proponent of “knowing the truth” was the one hushed down by someone who actually knew the truth on something.

Doesn’t mean he was wrong on a lot of other stuff though, and we’ll never really know.

And in fairness, it’s sometimes best not knowing stuff when others don’t, as they won’t believe you anyway!

I will, but I’ll say one thing before I go. Anyone who thinks Bloomfield and his staff are the only people who are being treated woefully or will be treated woefully by the current establishment have another thing coming. There are still absolutely perplexing things going on at our club, at this very time.

If the current lot stay in charge, I’d expect more things to come out eventually. There is no real “moving on” while the same unqualified people are running things. Either way, if you are giving a chap who has been here five minutes the benefit of the doubt over past legends and faithful servants, you have been warned. Bye.

Fabio Cannavaro is 5ft 9in.
Thiago Silva 5ft 11in.

Two of the best CBs the world has ever seen.

Carles Puyol aswell.

Can be either

‘Thing’ is American English.

All I know is we were signing players when we didn’t even have a manager, which is ridiculous.

I don’t think it’s as ridiculous as them not signing anyone would have been.

Can you imagine the absolute bed wetting had we lost the manager, had a similar loss of form, a manager that has so far inspired no one AND not bought in reinforcements when we were top of the league and players were being recalled and injured?

We had people saying the ownership were “obviously” throwing away promotion on purpose as it was. It would have been even worse with the alternative.

They panic bought, 100%. But I don’t subscribe to the theory that it was ridiculous to sign players when we had no manager. They had to do something in the transfer market.

The club literally cannot win. If we didn’t sign anyone you would have said that was ridiculous too.

Let’s hope that Hagelskjaer, Berry and Westergaard are battling for the POTS award come this time next year eh?

We never “threw away” promotion. Our record against the top 6 was AWFUL. To me, that suggests that we were never good enough. We got tested by the best teams, and we did not beat any of them. There is nothing to suggest we deserved promotion.

It appears you have that backwards. The expression originated in the US as ‘another think’ but the ‘thing’ version was popularised by Judas Priest.

Under Lawrie Sanchez. It was moving Rhino to centre half that coincided with us picking up incredible points and ding the double over Man City, if my memory serves me well.

But it was 20+ years ago so there’s a good chance it hasn’t!

I really don’t get why people keep on doing this. No one has said “shorter players can never be good defenders.” Or even that Taylor Allen isn’t a great player.

But anyone can just name names of brilliant defenders and find some were short. Rio Ferdinand, Virgil Van Dijk, Paulo Maldini, Sergio Ramos, Gerard Pique and Nemanja Vidic, Alfie Mawson and many others are all over six foot.

So what?

ALL of these examples are still irrelevant to League One in 2025. So, who cares if Gary Pallister was great as a tall centre half in the Premier League in 1997?

It’s apples and oranges. And none of this affects my concern that in a two man defence the shorter man would be targeted by the opposition.

Really hope we get a rumour soon.
