Why isn’t he good enough? If you look at the stats for his games (when Duff took over) we won more games with him playing than we did without. If he isn’t good enough, surely that stat would be reversed…?

Well we need to give the ownership credit here then do we not ? Got him on a free and sold him back . As we had turned down 2 previous offers it could well have been for a not unsignificant sum.
Hopefully we were waiting for this to free up some money to sign someone.

We had one of the best defences in the division over a period of 10-12 games when Casey and Anders had adjusted and Duff had steadied the ship.

Certainly no inside knowledge, but Lankshear is a very good centre forward at our level. And just the type of player we need.
He will be known to Rice and Co, as played for England under 17’s and 18’s. He certainly won’t be going back to Oxford.
He will be behind Cook and Casey for a starting place.
Agreed. Excellent business. And further helps our SCMP margins.
Depends, really. I feel like it’s unlikely we will have made money on him given his wages and any signing on fees.

Absolutely correct. Another signing that did more harm than good.
Oh come on . If a club gets a player in for nothing and sells him for a fee it’s a win.

Only if they are a useful contributor in the period while they are at the club. Otherwise it’s a purely financial transaction, in which case you should be considering all the relevant costs in deciding whether it was a good piece of business.
If we’d signed him on a free, he’d played well for a year, and we sold him on for a fee, that would be a different scenario. His wages would have been paying for his performances.

A couple of people have made the assumption that it’s Anders not Casey that will be benched now Cook has arrived.
But is Cook not a right sided centre back? So every chance it could be Anders and Cook?
Although we don’t really know if Duff is aiming to utilise his back 3 plan next season. Not hearing any movement of centre back outbounds would back that up potentially? Although i’d hate to see us play a back 3 again personally

We probably gave him a significant signing on fee as well.
Ok lets not give them any credit why buck the trend eh ? He went out on loan to them for half the season too (they would have paid his wages).
If any club bought in a player for no fee , it didn’t work out , then then managed to sell him for a fee they would be delighted (especially if they had paid signing on fees and wages)
I suspect your bias against the owners means you will always look for a reason not to give credit. I feel you would have far preffered it if we had paid a fee and let him go for nothing.
It would then have fed into your anti Rice agenda.

How much did it cost to recruit Tilley? Signing on fee and agent fee please.
How much were Tilley’s wages?
What percentage of those wages were being covered during his loan spell?
What was the transfer fee that we received?
Those figures would transform your post from one of idle speculation to one of informed opinion.

Hopefully we won’t see the sort of mass stockpiling scattergun transfer policy again.
Tilley, Berry, Lowry just for attacking mids. At least we’ve rectified the former two. Will probably be difficult to move Lowry on.
I’ll give them credit for things that earn credit. As I’ve said elsewhere, Duff seems like a good appointment. Steve Cook seems like exactly the kind of signing we have been crying out for, and shows learning from previously signing almost exclusively young, talented players with promise.
I won’t give them credit for signing a player who didn’t play then got loaned out.

He was Oxford’s best player in the Championship last year. He certainly won’t be coming to Wycombe! His next loan will be a top end Championship club, or abroad.

In terms of our playing squad this has been a total failure. Played a total of 158 minutes in the league last season of 27 games available before he went back to Dons on loan. Did not even make the squad in 15 of those games.
It looks highly likely we have made a profit though, so well done to Rice for spotting the potential.
