I don’t want statement signings. I want good signings.
With the greatest of respect you simply do not know this to be true though do you. It is not an opinion based on knowledge . Unless I have misjudged you and you know the player ?
Problem is the signings since January haven’t been good have they…
He won’t be the same level as Bradley, Low and Taylor. Time will tell. My concern is our signings since Jan haven’t improved the 1st team.
Wow. Some underwhelming comments with two signings before the main window actually opens!
I’m loving this. The club have been tracking Tilley for a number of years, we get him. Casey comes from the SPL, we get him.
We’ve got what, 6-7 signings to come? The Danes (from what I gather) have also been ‘conditioning’ for English football, Hagelskjaer is going to be a big part of the team, we have really exciting players in Berry and Lowry who will also be getting, I imagine, a relentless pre-season; glass is half full.
James Berry
Chesterfield. League 2. 10th (at the time of transfer)
Attacking midfielder/striker (left)
Chesterfield stats 24/25.
28 appearances.
10 goals.
3 assists.
Game time at Wycombe - 34 minutes.
According to Dodd’s he’s a “slow burner”
James Tilley
AFC Wimbledon. League 2. 5th.
Attacking midfielder/striker (right)
AFC Wimbledon stats 24/25.
52 appearances.
5 goals.
8 assists.
What doesn’t make Tilley another “slow burner”?
If Berry, Anders and Westergaard were any good they would have played last season. They obviously aren’t up to standard.
No they clearly weren’t up to standard; hence why they had hardly any game time. But they were clearly signed for a reason, and as I said, conditioning is clearly a factor. These guys are now going through a full cycle of English L1 football, being topped off with a proper pre-season. The glass is half full.
Adam Reach had played less football than all of them prior to signing. I think you’re clutching at straws if you think it’s a conditioning thing. They’re not up to league 1 football would be a more accurate observation.
Let’s agree to disagree.
We’ll soon see one way or the other
Let’s keep things in perspective.
We’ve made two signings, both free agents that we didn’t have to pay a transfer fee for, and who may or may not become first choice starters.
When the window reopens properly next week, I would expect the cheque book to be waved, and a few Championship quality players to be added to the squad, that’s if we’re serious about aiming for promotion.
I think both the new signings are encouraging. The ‘marquee’ signings we made in January haven’t exactly set the world alight yet. Let’s not pretend like any of us really know much about Tilley or Casey - both come in with decent pedigree.
We’ve signed plenty of players over the years that have come in with slightly underwhelming ‘numbers’. Much more to the game than G/A, and there will be plenty more signings to come.
Maybe it’s the lack of actually seeing us play, but the optimism is slowly building again for me
What I wanna know is why are we announcing new signings late into the evening on Friday and Saturday when the transfer window isn’t even open? Why not just wait till Monday morning?
You always leave the best until last.
I think more likely one or both won’t even be at the club at the start of the season. Absolutely miles off the required standard.
Both who are "free agents " after not signing contracts offered by their former clubs . Of which bother former clubs have expressed disappointment that they didn’t stay. Not a lot different to Lowe with us really .
I would add that truly keeping things in perspective would be to understand that the window doesn’t even open until Monday and these two signings may well not define the quality of players yet to come in .
Does the window being shut actually mean anything? Clubs/players can sign pre contract agreements etc etc
I believe free agents can be signed outside of the official window(s) but someone far more knowledgable than me may be able to correct me here.
