For me this is one of the most embarrassing threads I’ve ever seen on the Gasroom. Appreciate everyone is entitled to their opinion so this is not me criticizing anyone for it, i just feel amazed this is how some people feel towards owners that have re started our academy, laid out for a brand new pitch that has not been done in over 20 years and spend millions on the new training ground. No Owner will get everything right, the same way no manager will get everything right. The same way us as humans don’t get everything right. But as long as the best intentions of Wycombe Wanderers are the priority then i can allow for some mistakes along the way. It seems some people still feel they want us to be trust owned again, so we have that tight nit family feel club back. If that was the case you do realize Wycombe Wanderers would most likely be no more? that was not a sustainable way to run a football club, hence the reason we sold to Couhig. Again, Rob was always under pressure from fans saying this isn’t right that isn’t right ect. lets remember what they did do… got us to the championship, a play off final and a EFL trophy final. To me that’s pretty good going!
Could Rice have handled the Bloomfield situation any different? of course. but this isn’t something just Rice has done. Its pretty common when new owners take charge of a football club they want their own man. The January window was a disaster, however he rectified that by appointing Stockwell in march to take charge of those operations.
I just feel some people will never be happy unless we had Bloomfield or Ainsworth in charge. Heroes move on, players move on. The Club and fans stay. As long as the people passing by whoever they are leave this place in a better position than they started, that’s good enough for me. and If Rice and co leave tomorrow, i would safely say they have done that.

I disagree.
Totally appreciate and agree that the investment is welcomed and amazing, however this thread is more about how the club is now being run.
I’d argue that under Rice’s unqualified leadership the club is less sustainable than ever, and that so many of his decisions have had a negative impact on Wycombe Wanderers on and off the pitch.

This goes back to my post the other day trying to highlight how things are with awful or brilliant in people’s minds.
Incompetent is a very strong word.
He has done some bad things, sure. He has done some awful things. He’s also done some good things, some average things, and some that are just ok.
Incompetent would suggest everything he has done is terrible, which is demonstrably untrue.
There does seem to be a case, in my eyes at least, where some people lump all the bad stuff happening on Rice, and all the good decisions to be ML.
When I think the reality is, the leadership team as a whole are working together and sign every major decision everything off as a whole.

I haven’t heard anyone say good decisions are ML and bad are Rice btw, nobody really knows if ML has any strategic input or is simply funding it all.
If I was to post that Rice has done great would you object on similar grounds? Nobody gets everything 100% right or wrong , people will make their own conclusions. He’s not the first unpopular club administrator here or elsewhere. The owner has spent a fortune and that’s great but people can be concerned about how well it’s been spent.
On the face of it almost everything that happened in January was a shambles regardless of the personalities involved and we haven’t started well on the pitch this term, People are already starting to reduce expectations for the season and if we give everyone more and more time and money we might one day be as good as we were in December. Some green shoots in second halves does not mean our rookie manager is nailed on to deliver.
The pitch was mandated as part of the deal, the academy is very positive but also spending huge amounts so will eventually come under pressure to deliver, just as we get another large payout from the sensibly set up dev team approach, and the training ground move out and back in while we still don’t own it does sound like a fiasco.
A good tackle is a good tackle, a bad one is a bad one, this idea everything is all agendas and personality stuff is being used to excuse poor performance as much if not more than it’s being used to big up past employees.

I would and have done, yes.
As an example of it being, the way he (and they as a group because it wouldn’t have been a one man decision) dealt with MB was a bullshit half measure that was absolutely appalling. He should have sacked him on day one of new ownership or backed him AND the team he had in place until a time results or Matt himself decided it was time to step away.
I don’t think people are explicitly say the good stuff done is ML, but I do think they either conveniently forget Rice is part of the good things that happen, or purposely don’t like to give him any credit.
Once again, this disgraceful thread has been revived by a poster who thinks its existence is disgraceful.

Sure, we haven’t heard directly from ML himself - which is still one of my bugbears I’ve been told by several people is nothing to concern myself about several times - but we have had anecdotal evidence from those in charge, the players and new hires that the whole leadership team Is involved.
Of course Rice could be bearface Lying we he said he had almost daily calls with ML about things.
I would at least suspect he would ask what £10 million of his money has been spent on. That might be a small overall % of his wealth, but I’m sure of a few things. 1. His wealth isn’t all liquid. 2. Billionaires don’t stay Billionaires if they don’t keep an eye on the spending of Millions.

On a serious note, Rice has actually done quite a few good things, but for me they haven’t as yet totally cancelled out the bad things such as forcing out Bloomfield and his team and replacing him with a coach who is plainly out of his depth. I am convinced that we now have the best squad in the League (excepting perhaps Luton) but we won’t get anywhere near the best out of them whilst Dodds is in charge.

I’m actually not that fair off you in terms of how I feel about Rice, Dodds or the squad depth.
I just think we have to give them all some time and understanding that they will make huge fuck ups because all three of those things are inexperienced in their roles and to call for them to be sacked because of inexpirenced mistakes seems way to overly critical.
Now, should we have inexperienced people in leadership positions?
- There’s not much we can really do about it in the case of Rice. That was a call by the (also inexperienced) owner/funder of the project.
- We have almost always had inexpirenced managers, haven’t we? Even the greats in MoN Ainsworth and MB were inexperienced.
Alan smith and Peter Taylor are the two expirenced names that spring to mind. shudder
They will all also do some amazing things imo.

I remember 10 years of some posters, whatever the result and wherever we were in the table, constantly calling that Ainsworth out for his lack of tactical nous and terrible football. Sooner or later, we were told, we’ll all see how right they were.
