Trying to work out the strategy for the next game… Go to the pub Sunday afternoon and have “a few”, then go home and have maybe a night cap so to speak, set the alarm and sleep, up at midnight, a couple of liveners and settle down to watch the game…oh and don’t arrange to be in work Monday at all.
Or…just go on a massive bender all day Sunday, pass out and wake up in time for the game..?
The England flags on lampposts will be a giveaway. If fans are taking them down, you’ll know that England are out. If it’s workers employed by woke snowflake Councils doing it, we’re still in.
Easy. Go to sleep early. Record the Brazil game. Wake up at 0100. Switch the TV on at 0108 - see we are 1-0 down. Watch the next 7 minutes increasingly despairing at our defence. Watch the first half of the Brazil game. Check our score. Still 0-1 down. Watch the second half of the Brazil game. Turn over to 1-0 down with 5 minutes left to see a replay of Kane being fouled/falling over/diving in the penalty area. Experience Déjà vu. Fall asleep and miss….
I was very skeptical of both the extended WC, and the USA hosting it, coming into the tournament. However, I’m happy to admit I was wrong on both counts.
It’s been fantastic watching the smaller teams not just enjoy the occasion, but also be extremely competitive and well drilled.
And the US cities have been brilliant hosts - both in terms of their organisation and stadia, and the buy in and hospitality from the locals now its underway.
It’s felt like a real cultural exchange and reset between the USA, and the rest of the world. When you get out to these places, especially the south, you realise that the politics of division being sown by big media outlets and weirdos on social media is mostly irrelevant noise.
England fans were also exceptionally well behaved - nothing like the scenes and mood I saw in Marseille against Russia in the Euros.
Even if England go out against Mexico, as long as they go down swinging at the Azetca, it will have been an excellent world cup.
