No denying there is contact between the two players but it’s 50:50. Look at Salah’s reaction, he makes no appeal because he knows it’s not a foul.

The BBC ref seems to be saying that because it was in the box they would have had to review it as a penalty, where the threshold is higher? If Salah had been outside the box the free kick would have been given and no goal for Argentina. I thought a free kick was a free kick, but not in VAR’s eyes.
From what I saw, it wasn’t a foul regardless of where the incident occurred.

If I was a big USA footy fan I would be furious with Trump and Infantino.
Between these two idiots they have completely derailed the US’s preparation for the game. The biggest loss on home soil for 40 years I heard, excluding friendlies.

Was there much of a fuss over it in the American media? Everywhere else made a fuss but did they in the US?
I think the US have a very different view of franchised sport than we do of non franchised sport and this leads to US views that are far from ours when it comes to football.
They were getting battered by all the top level teams they played pre-tournament, so loosing to Belgium is not a particular surprise. Undoubtedly Trump’s ridiculous intervention will have affected morale though.
I always have this gut feeling, if ever USA were to win the World cup, it would be the day football dies.
Hopefully it never happens in my life time. Football comes from the soul and is for the people.

I’ve ended up with BBC 3 on the Golden Generation and 2006 world cup. So many hyped players, but all seem a bit different to the current lot.
