Who starts against Bolton?

I’d be interested to know what people think about how we line up and who starts against Bolton.

Morley has got to start surely. Can we include CBM and Henderson somehow to ensure we’re still in the game with 20 to go? Bolster midfield and only start with Fred wide and bring Junior/Vidigal on later? Two wide seems a luxury to me. At home fine but not away at Bolton.

Is playing two up top - Lowe & Woodrow - a choice anyone would make? Would Duff more importantly ?

Harvie gives us great width but maybe asking one of our Superscots to do too much unless we can top up his Iron Bru.

While performance at Barnsley was great, the Tykes were shite. Bolton ain’t. What’s the best starting lineup to ensure we aren’t 2-0 down at HT and hoping for a miracle comeback. Duff has been brilliant so far aside from the occasional question around game management.

À solid start and draw first half if necessary so we still have a chance to win the 2nd? Or just go hell for leather??

Whatever Duffman wants. I couldn’t possibly critique.

I honestly believe that we are capable of making Bolton look pretty ordinary.

Agree but we did that to Reading and still lost. Not blaming Leahy but Henderson should have started that game and perhaps we wouldn’t have been 2 down at HT.

And Barnsley were made to look very poor but only lost 1-0.

Bolton à lot tougher than either. I trust Duff, just interested to hear views on how we could ‘make them look ordinary’.

I would play a slightly more solid line up, assuming all are fit.

Norris, Grimmer, Casey, Allen, Harvie, Morley, CBM, Henderson, Harris, Woodrow, Fred

Subs: van Sas, Taylor, Leahy, Mullins, Quitirna, Lowe, Vidigal.

While I like the idea of Henderson, Morley and CBM. Im just unsure how it works, and could leave the front isolated.

I think he may go back to woodrow.

Id probably stick with the same as Barnsley. Bolton in a good run, but they do concede, if we sit back and invite pressure, om not sure its the best way.

I suspect thats how Duff will go. Certainly don’t want to see us retreating to 18 yard line with no out ball. Morley & CBM to boss midfield then.

Maybe Bolton away isnt the game to try it but I’d love to see Lowe and Woodrow on the pitch together at some point. Seems to be either one or other at the moment, perhaps to minimise impact on team shape & pattern of play. I do wonder if we might create/convert more chances with two up top as a 9 and a 10. Of course if CBM can keep playing Lowe in with Exocet passes like his assist vs Burton maybe we don’t need 2 up there.

Same as Barnsley for me. Not saying it’s objectively our best XI but if it ain’t broke? Duff knows how to use subs.

A couple of points. Looks like you share my fondness for occasionally writing in French.

Depends on your interpretation of ‘ordinary’. Having watched Bolton à couple of times recently, I didn’t think they looked that special. And I think it could be a case of third time lucky when it comes to capitalising on our territorial/shots on goal superiority.

I would very much appreciate the moderating input of our Bolton fan in peace. Yet again, my memory for usernames fails me.

is Norris not suspended? as he has 5 yellow cards since the reset

I think Woodrow starts for Lowe.

I think the name you are looking for is @Warranty, @micra.

Doesn’t the 5 yellow cards suspension get re-set at some point in the season?

I’d imagine an unchanged side may be in offing.

I’d certainly be shocked if Lowe doesn’t start again.

yeah, but sure he has picked up 5 since the reset …

I had to look this up after Norris booking on Tuesday. It’s cumulative over the season with various targets to avoid at different times.

5 yellow cards in the first 19 matches. = 1 match ban
10 yellow cards in the first 37 matches = 2 match ban
15 yellow cards in full regular season (excludes playoffs) = 3 match ban
20 yellows in full regular season = TBD by Regulators

Norris can’t hit 10 in 37 now without getting a 2 yellow red anyway, so he’s safe again basically. He’s on 7 for the season so far, after 35 matches.

If you look at the timings for his bookings and which league match numbers they are in it does appear as if he’s being managed/advised on when he should do some game time management.

It took me ages to find the 7th card, but it was his first. He got booked on the bench first game of the season vs Bradford away.

Start Fink and sack Duff for @Chairboys80

In all seriousness, Fink should be on the bench for me if you are starting Lowe (which you should).

Why waste a space? You have Woodrow on the bench if Lowe plays.

Woodrow is a No 10 and not someone you want coming on to take centre forward role when you are trying to win/salvage something. Fink is a centre forward.
