I was there for that one. Good scrap
And a pretty poor one at that. Best ignored.
We’d all love him to come good.
But he barely impacts the play when he’s out there and it’s still quite hard to say what sort of player he is still, almost a year on.
I had Magnus as my personal MOTM against Reading. The Gasroom voted him 2nd (after Anders). We all had high hopes and then they’ve faded. That game was the 23rd August.
Westergaard is shit. Hopefully thats clear enough. Cant pass, cant tackle, fouls opposition players, runs around not much else. Stewart Lewis is a better player than him, and he had limited ability for LG2. But he made up for it by running around/being a pest.
Not having a go at you @petef1 want to see him do well - but Rice - made an error with recruitment by going for unproven European players in lower English leagues. If we are to believe 800k was spent. Viborg saw us coming.
No, I know you’re not. I think the point I was trying to make (badly) is one swallow doesn’t make a summer.
Given we have him long term and we’re likely not to make a ROI anytime soon given his form, a loan spell in L2 would likely be beneficial for all parties.
Magnus is a lower L2 player at best, he’s the same level as Pattison and that feels a little harsh on Alex tbh.
Fink is the same Level as Mellor. Imagine if Ainsworth had these two, they would be out on loan or released by now, but because the best part of £1.5m has been spent on them the coach has to persevere. I can’t imagine Duff has much more patience for the shit he’s been given by Rice.
Roll on the day Rice is finally removed and pumped, fucking fraud.
I’ll add before the Ricehole lickers jump on it, Mullins looks a decent prospect, Henderson too is a good player but the rest… Every other signing has been a downgrade.
“Dan Rice? Dan Risalamande more like. That joke is funny because it means rice pudding in English”
(Scene from the last Viborg board meeting)
I think Taylor Allen was a great signing and I think he has a bright future.
Jury still out on Junior and Connor Taylor for me. I feel they both have plenty left in the upward trajectory.
Allen I haven’t seen enough of under Duff, obviously no one came out of the Dodds wra looking decent. I wait until Allen is back to make Judgement.
Jnr hasn’t done enough when he has played, again limited so hard to fully judge him.
Connor Taylor resembles a freshly born giraffe finding its feet for the first time. How on earth he’s a professional footballer I will never know, the bloke can barely walk let alone run.
Anders however does look a good player and great passer of the ball.
What is find amazing about all of this is, we have a scouting network, numerous data analysis etc… Gareth Ainsworth had jumpers for shirt posts and managed to pick up some of the greatest players ive seen play for wycombe in my 35 years.
Dan Rice wrote the cheque for Harvie too, all be it that he had only just arrived
What GA and maybe Blooms did was make judgements on a player’s attitude as well as their ability. In GA’s case, he surrounded himself with players that wanted to push themselves to be better and to be given that chance to prove themselves. We saw with players like Bayo, Vokes, McCleary, Mawson etc. all came here with baggage but brought into GA’s mentality and did whatever they could to repay for that belief that was shown in them.
I think we’ve seen under the Rice/Data model that while some players are statically winning battles or having high xG or whatever, they lack the fight and grit to dig deep and get out of tricky situations.
This might be due to the players showing their lack of experience, either in the English game or playing experience but the only ones that I truly see busting a gut for the team is Grimmer, Leahy and Scowen (when fit). Harvie has the quality but I get the impression that he could turn a dressing room if things become challenging for him. (I’m not ITK, it’s just a personal feeling)
Berry looks and sounds like he was a bad apple. Lowry could follow in the same way. Taylor, van Sas, Westergaard & Fink haven’t made the most of the opportunities they have been given whereas question marks are being raised over the quality that Casey, Junior & a few others bring to the squad.
Statically winning battles isn’t ideal.
With apologies to @thedancingyak for this passive aggressive witticism.
Harvie was a Mitchell signing though.
You probably should apologise to everyone else for dragging me into something I had absolutely no interest in being involved with
But you tagged me and here I am. Funny how that works.
