January window - go/stay, sign

I’m not actually sure how keen Morley would be on returning here though.

Yes he had a wonderful time here but things have changed considerably since then.

Players are more likely to be attached to managers rather than clubs, particularly if they are having to move significant distances.

But yes. It would be great to see him back

With the renewal of interest amongst a few Gasroomers I had a brief look at what’s been going on lately at Bolton. My disappointment when Aaron Morley was recalled by Bolton in January was compounded by the fact that he’d made it abundantly clear that he had really loved his time with us. He’s quite a low key character as you will see from the following interview back in September. He has an unusual and interesting way of responding to questions.

I’ve not been able to isolate the interview. I’m afraid you’ll need to scroll down.

My grandson asked him for an autograph
On the panini sticker as he was leaving Saturday and he was very amiable and friendly. I was pleasantly surprised

After last night’s dismal showing…

LOAN OUT
Laurence Shala
Declan Skura
Ryan Cole
Jamie Mullins
Cameron Stones
Jaiden Bartolo (at Chesham United until January 2026)

Plus lots of the academy guys

GET RID
James Berry (at Chesterfield until the end of the 2025-26 season)
Niall Huggins (on loan from Sunderland)
Connor Taylor
George Abbott (might have already gone back due to injury)
Magnus Westergaard
James Tilley
Bradley Fink

Would leave us needing:
Goalkeeper - if we don’t get George back. Also get rid of one of Norris, MVS or Moore
Defender - another centre back needed

Midfielders -Maybe one defensive, one creative
Foward - lacking a target man /poacher

No way are the club going to release Connor Taylor and I think you have subconsciously accepted that by not suggesting the need for an additional central defender. On that score, it’s a reminder that we have been denied for several weeks now the option of playing Taylor Allen as an alternative left side centre back.

On Taylor Allen, is he going to get back into the side? I don’t think he displaces either Anders or Harvie and I don’t think you play him or Anders at right centre back.

I thought he said another centre back needed didn’t he?

It’s only taken a couple of defeats to go from ‘we’d better not sign ten players in January,’ to ‘we’d better sign ten players in January.’

Whilst we are on the subject, well done to Anders Hagelskjaer for turning things around. Looked like one our worst players ever but now looks like one of the first names on team sheet. Solid at the back, gets forward well and has got a great range on him. Credit where it’s due. He’s an example to others who have initially struggled.

I think while he’s only managed one goal so far for them, the loan at Chesham has definitely benefitted Bartolo. If you watch back the BB Cup match last night with the academy he looked a lot more confident and sharper, regularly breaking the defensive lines. If he can get a couple more goals in him at Chesham I’d look at recalling him in early Jan, perhaps keep him around the first team for a couple of weeks and then explore either a League Two or National League loan to test him at a higher level.

Don’t think we need any more than 3 or 4. Right sided centre back, defensive midfielder, centre forward, maybe a No 10. This window should be quality over quantity.

Yeh. I think two forwards at least, depending on what happens with Woodrow and Bell, a DM, depending on the Scowen/Abbot situation, a CB with a few teeth missing, and maybe Shamal George.

And a tattoed forehead.

We’ll all be watching Shamal George playing for St Mirren against Celtic in the Cup Final on Sunday afternoon and, who knows, Caolan Boyd-Munce - the original man in the middle - might travel up there to cheer him on and report back to MD2.

It was when i saw Sonny Bradley’s tattoos i knew we were in safe hands.

Absolutely. Phenomenal.

I have a temporary blue ballpoint one on my wrist.

Good question and, yes, you did mention the need for an additional centre back.

The problem with recruitment is the people doing the recruiting.

The January transfer window is as much a threat as an opportunity.

All depends on the ambition for the season. The current squad will keep us in league one easily enough but don’t see us bothering the top half.

Sonny is a legend, loved him from his first tackle :+1::+1:.

My initial leap to judgement following the arrival of Sonny Bradley is almost as bad as @eric_plant’s to the signing of Adebayo Akinfenwa.

I’ll learn (I won’t).
