What odds Wycombe v Flackwell in 1st round….
Enjoying the game with a pint.
Very even until the first goal and then two quick further goals have killed the game.
Maldon are level 8 too so a big chance for The Heathens to make the first round proper for the first time in their history.
441 in Sandhurst
Hats off to Flackwell. Holmer were 3-0 down last time I saw.
Some light relief with a check-in on how local sides are faring now the league tables are taking shape…
NATIONAL LEAGUE SOUTH
Hornchurch (spearheaded by familiar name, Angelo Balanta) top the table but Maidenhead United have adjusted well to life in the NLS following their relegation. They’re 5 points off top but comfortably ensconced in the play-off places following today’s 1-0 home win over Worthing.
Chesham United came from behind to secure a valuable 4-1 win against Enfield Town. Former Wanderer Matt McClure was on the scoresheet while Jaiden Bartolo came off the bench. The Generals had stuttered of late but roared back into form and climb to 11th position.
Slough Town were 3-2 victors at Hampton & Richmond (H&R captained by Alan Massey, another former parishioner) with yet another familiar face, player-manager, Scott Davies, on the scoresheet. The Rebels sit in 17th, but just a point behind Chesham in a very congested table after 10 games played.
SOUTHERN LEAGUE DIVISION ONE CENTRAL
Marlow’s underwhelming start to life back at Step 4 sees the Blues outside of the relegation zone, only on goal difference. Today’s 4-1 home reverse against Hitchin Town was another low point.
Aylesbury United are only two points better off, with their game at AFC Dunstable postponed. Flackwell’s cup exploits means the Heathens are playing catch-up but this afternoon’s 3-1 win over Stotfold has them looking upwards towards the play-off spots. Beaconsfield Town suffered a 4-0 drubbing at high-flying Leighton Town, puncturing an otherwise decent start to the campaign.
SPARTAN SOUTH MIDLANDS LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
I know there’s at least one local on this forum so it’d be remiss not to mention that Winslow United sit top following their 4-0 thrashing of Harlow Town. Risborough Rangers are in fourth position having started well following their sideways move from the CCL Prem North. Aylesbury Vale Dynamos are down in 15th spot.
COMBINED COUNTIES PREMIER DIVISION NORTH
Burnham are top of the tree following a 4-0 demolition of Edgware & Kingsbury. Windsor & Eton are chasing a third straight promotion and lie in third place after beating Milton United 2-1 away from home. Amersham Town have acquitted themselves well to Step 5, although they were left in the departure lounge in today’s 2-0 defeat at British Airways.
COMBINED COUNTIES DIVISION ONE
Penn and Tylers Green had the worst possible preparation for their big cup tie against the Chairboys. They were the victims of a surprise 5-1 hammering at lowly Hillingdon Borough, albeit this was their first league defeat in an otherwise promising campaign so far.
Holmer Green grabbed a much-needed tonic by swatting aside Oxhey Jets (5-2) at Watchet Lane. When all their best players are available they look a force but they currently sit 10 points outside the play-offs despite a promising start to the season.
I seem to say this every time but spare a thought for Chalfont St Peter. They’re winless after 14 games and marooned in the relegation spots following a 2-1 home loss to Sandhurst Town. I think you can apply to be re-elected at Step 6, or if Step 7 clubs don’t meet the grade for promotion. But serious questions need to be asked about the viability of the club at senior level following years of abject decline.
This evening Risborough Rangers host Winslow United in the Spartan Premier and entry is free if you book online and use the code ‘FREETICKET’ at the checkout. Book here: https://www.intix.com/event/copy-of-risborough-rangers-v-winslow-unite (sic)
Both teams are in very good form, Risborough with 22 out of 24 points, table toppers Winslow with 25 out of 30 points. Kick-off 19:45, I hope to be there.
Also tonight in the National South, Chesham are at home to Worthing and Maidenhead United host Tonbridge Angels, both 19:45 KO. Brody Peart is enjoying a good run as a starter for the Angels, Jack Matton is not in the squad currently.
FT Risborough Rangers 1-2 Winslow United.
Good game to watch, played at a very fast pace. Winslow took the lead on 15’, keeper’s punt down the middle bounces once and Harry Scott lobbed the keeper. Deserved lead at HT but Risborough came back strongly and had a shot tipped onto the bar before equalising on 68’ with a neat passing move finished by Cathline. Winslow scored the winner 8 minutes from time, Scott Valentine from close in for a deserved victory over a good side.
About 150 watching, Winslow are punching well above their weight this season. They won 3-2 at Coalville on Saturday, to get to the Vase 2nd Round for only the second time in their history.
Edit - official attendance 187.
Congratulations to Jack Wood for becoming Aylesbury United’s record appearance holder. A record like that is rare these days. He is a very good player and could have played at a higher level but, sometimes, loyalty is more important.
Look who is now number two, Cliff Hercules… he needs to be in a team with Danny Invincible and John Nutter (am trying to think of other suitable teammates).
Fair play. It’s not exactly been an easy ride for the homeless Ducks and they’re having a pretty rough season so far.
I think we were interested in signing Hercules, but he was not interested in us. We did provide the opposition for his testimonial. He scored 301 goals for the Ducks.
Wasn’t Hercules quote “ Why would I go to Wycombe, we can beat them anytime we want to”
Chesham United superfan and Taskmaster creator, Alex Horne, is producing a behind-the-scenes doc charting the ups and downs of this season.
First episode airs next month on YouTube:
Hmmm.
Alan Devonshire will leave Maidenhead United after 10 years in charge, after the home game with Chippenham Town on Saturday. Ryan Peters will be interim manager.
he previously had a 7 year stint there as well. remarkable.
Maidenhead have a Grassroots Day this Saturday, I had intended going as I can’t make it to Rotherham. Will be a sad day for The Magpies as Alan is so entwined in the club and it’s recent history.
An adult and U17 ticket is only £9 in total. Hopefully Alan gets a bumper crowd.
As we approach the festive period, here’s a few local games you may wish to keep an eye on or visit, depending on your WWFC or family commitments. Keep an eye on the skies (and social feeds)…it’s currently wet, then turning colder next week.
All 3pms unless stated. Brackets denotes current league position.
