Hopefully, would need a team they’re currently level with to lose as well, just in case Zrinjski beat Rapid, who are rock bottom of the Conference League with 0 points. Don’t see KuPS or Breidablik (the other two teams that can catch them) getting anything against Crystal Palace or Strasbourg.
Wolves discovering that when your luck’s out, it’s really out.
After getting gubbed 3-0 at home v Ian Holloway’s Swindon Town, and standing 2nd bottom in the L2 table, Brovers have gone and sacked their manager Darrell Clarke, a former promotion hero for them.
I still remember the day we relegated the Gas at theirs, with a fair chunk of the away end being comprised of Swindon fans jeering gleefully at the dire straits of Bristol’s second side, so I can only imagine the atmosphere yesterday.
You could almost feel sorry for them.
Almost, but not quite.
Bloomfield allegedly being interviewed along with Brady. Anyone got a clip of that little skip of joy while still playing at Torquay……
Mike Dodds is 20/1 for the job. That would be really hilarious if they appointed him. Williamson also high in the betting list.
That would be heck of a way for Bloomfield to travel each day.
Perhaps Matt and Gareth could agree a job swap??
How is Bloomfield regarded by Wycombe supporters? His record at Colchester and Luton doesn’t seem impressive. Was his success with you largely because he was taking over Gareth Ainsworth’s team?
He was doing very well at Wycombe, and he had very much transformed it from an Ainsworth team to a Bloomfield one. The (alleged) reason he left was because the owners wanted to go in a different direction (and that direction turned out to be Mike Dodds.)
He had a good record at Colchester before he joined us, although it would be hard to argue he was anything but a failure at Luton.
This is a particularly controversial topic on the Gasroom, but the **only **correct answer is that Bloomfield was a great servant to Wycombe as a player and a manager and we are worse off without him.
Thank you for the informative reply. I think you’ve got a good man at the helm in Michael Duff after the inexplicable appointment of Mike Dodds.
I think that’s the most diplomatic post I’ve seen about Blooms. Bravo!
I’m still staying well away from this thread when the regulars see the question later on this afternoon!

I think wherever he goes next, Bloomfield will need time to settle in. MB had a poor start as a manager with us and may have been sacked if our ownership team hadn’t been so knowing of what he was about from his previous history with us.
However, once he got it together MB had a superb record, mainly due to the signing of three excellent loan players in Cam Humphreys (Ipswich), Aaron Morley (Bolton) and Caleb Taylor (then WBA).
In my view he made a big mistake going to Luton who were an absolute basket case at the time. This season Luton were expected to walk the league so he was sacked after a middling start to the season. Interestingly they haven’t improved under their new manager.
Blooms now has to resurrect his managerial career and I think he will, but he needs to select his new club carefully (as Gareth has done).
Luton was a terrible choice, Bristol Rovers would be worse.
I have to agree, particularly because (as Blue since 1990 pointed out) Bloomfield took a long time to settle in; time he wouldn’t have at a team currently 91st!
What do you think would be a realistic good job for Bloomfield to hope to take?
The same as the ideal for any young manager I suppose. Take the job in May or June, owners with reasonable expectations, supportive fanbase, given a free hand in transfer activity and time to build culture.
Whether any of those jobs actually exist is another matter.
Think that’s exactly the problem. They almost certainly don’t. I think he will have to grab pretty much anything that comes along (assuming anything does) and probably has to make that work. Bristol Rovers feels a better chance than some (he says without knowledge of ownership situation there)
