Rumour Mill

To be fair, it’s better than the Bucks Free rag at least he’s providing data, using Dan’s fav stats to back up why we should sign them.

Why not spread the net as wide as possible for talent elsewhere if we have the resources to do so? Work permit rules would seem to make it difficult as the two Danes would have taken up the two ESC spots so would probably need to be eligible to work in other ways.

The whole idea that the Dane’s were signed to attract a specific new guy is one theory I don’t completely subscribe to for two reasons:

  1. The first one was signed before MB left and the second one just 4 or 5 days after.
  2. How long is the process of signing a player? I have no idea tbh but I’m sure it’s not hours or days. Both of those signings, whether MB was involved or not would have taken at least a week, if not several, or perhaps even months, meaning the process to sign both was while MB was here.

Now, if one were to argue that this process happening and MB had no input and his is what unsettled him enough to want to leave, I’d 100% believe that.

But saying that signing them was part of attracting a manager into a position that hadn’t been vacated yet, I’m not sure.

Not taking a view here but there was a potential narrative that the plan was to get the Danish manager in this summer and that regardless of whether MB had hung around and got us promoted or not he would have been replaced.

The two Danes signing in the way they did does fit into that narrative.

So if the next one in is Greek does that mean it’s bye bye Dodds and Γεια σου/G’day mate to Postecoglou?

Another potential narrative is that the data looked good on two Danish players, so people at the club talked to a Danish manager (or two) to get their opinion as some due diligence and human intelligence on the subject.

People then put two (rumours the club want to push manager out) and two (“club talked to a Danish Manger”) and come up with 6 - Rumours the club want to push manager out and have talked to a Danish manager.

The problem is, no one knows what the club talked to the Danish manager/coaches about. It could have been “hey guys, what are these players like?” rather than “do you want a job” and canvassed a man who’s job was running decent Danish team (iirc) and a guy second in command at a premier league job should may give a decent yard stick

As far as I understand it, the club talked to Rasmus Bertelsen who was set to join until it was established he wasn’t eligible for a work permit until two months down the line.

Interestingly Bertelsen now heavily linked with QPR job so are Anders and Magnus off there?!

I’m regretting now that I even alluded to what seems to many to be a feasible scenario!

If anyone can elaborate on and prolong a discussion, @thedancingyak can. But I’m impressed by his use of the subjunctive in the penultimate paragraph of his initial response.

Sorry for responding to someone responding to me.

Awful behaviour to actually have a two and fro conversation on the gasroom. I’ve gone absolutely mad. Someone stop me before it’s too late.

If ever an intervention from @eric_plant was needed, this is it.

Why couldn’t we get Bertie now?

I wouldn’t be surprised if that actually happened.

The first two parts of my hypothetical scenario for this summer have come to pass: Wycombe fail to get promoted, Sunderland succeed in doing so. I’m still hoping the third part comes true as well - Dodds returns to Sunderland as a coach and everyone saves face. You are providing a realistic fourth part - we then recruit the head coach we were originally after in Jan.

That would be a good outcome I feel

Can’t be worse than what we’ve got at the moment.

That would be ideal all round. Sadly I’m only 10% certain it’ll happen.

Ideal would be Dodds stays, gets off to a decent start, fans get behind him and we have a great season

We’d all drink to that.

Can somebody make up a rumour please? This rumour mill is currently about as productive as an eighteenth century corn mill with a broken waterwheel on a dried up stream in the middle of a failed corn harvest. Yet I still keep clicking in hope.
