Every player is a defender under Doddsball!
Simmons hugely overrated in my opinion, but it’s probably not fair to judge any player who operated in the Mike Dodds learning period.
Having him and Morley play next to each other in midfield would be a very decent partnership
I was obviously watching a different Joe Low to the one who was not a good footballer. I am sure not using the centre back and goalie who started the season so very poorly was the secret of our subsequent success.
I know, I know, We were lucky, already tailing off, being found out, etc etc.
Who said he wasn’t a good footballer? I just thought our other two CB’s were better with the ball at their feet.
While individually Bradley & Taylor seemed to be technically “better” footballers, the results don’t indicate that when they played together. Our form, amount of goals conceded and results were better when Taylor was partnered by Low.
Everyone is going to have their different views on this, both aspects are valid but we just need to move on. We are going down the same route that we did when discussing “Should we have signed Morley?”
Crikey, @our_frank ! You’ve really put me on the spot. I honestly hadn’t given much thought to wider issues that might have been affecting Joe’s mood that day but obviously not having been selected for too long either to start matches or to be brought on as a substitute must have rankled.
After taking into account the wise words of @Midlander, @Glenactico, @Otter87 and @Wendoverman, I think I would have gone with Caleb Taylor at left Centre Back and Joe on the right. No disrespect to Sonny Bradley of course. He’s been a real warrior for us.
I’m biased, as I love Joe Low, but it’s worth noting that we didn’t win a game or score a goal since he was dropped after the 4-0 Charlton defeat. Small sample size of difficult fixtures, yes, yet not a single goal! You may laugh at me for this, but some of that will be because Joe Low can play through the lines very well and Sonny Bradley cannot and resorts to kick it/head it/hoof. Sonny is great out of possession, but Low should not have been out the squad for those critical playoff games. He’s 90% of Sonny’s aerial/duel ability, but 2x better at playing out. Low is a much better player.
We lost those games because of Dodds tactics, not because Low didn’t play. If we don’t offer a contract to Bradley (not that we will probably ever know), I will be extremely disappointed.
I hour and 55 mins left of the initial transfer window remaining…
Closes at 7pm ?
Afraid so
7pm?
That’s it. We’re going down.
I think the Danish window is still open…though the players may be knackered by August.
Dont get me wrong, I would sign Sonny…but I stll think Taylor Low was a better combo.
I love Joe Low, thought his performances in the first half of the season were exceptional at this level, but he was dropped after a couple of poor performances.
Although I would have found a way to get him back in the team, there isn’t too much you can argue about on that, it’s just the way it goes in football some time.
Remember Matt Bloomfield also dropped him for the Peterborough Wembley game too.
In light of that, it’s understandable he doesn’t see his future here when he was benched behind the others. Sure 2 of them might not be here next season, but from his perspective it’s hardly going to make him feel wanted.
I was delighted we managed to keep I him in January, but the way things played out it’s a shame he didn’t get his move to Championship then, and guess highlights exactly why players are so quick to want to move on when a better offer comes up.
Think remember when he signed for us, he turned down a contract offer at Bristol City because he wanted to play first team football.
Assuming he leaves, will wish him the very best for the future and hope he can get back into the Wales squad soon.
As I was confused by why it was closing today I asked ChatGpt
The initial (or first phase) summer transfer window for EFL clubs in 2025 is structured this way:
• Opens: Sunday, 1 June 2025
• Closes (Phase 1): Tuesday, 10 June 2025 at 7 PM BST
This early window allows clubs – including those in the Premier League – to sign players ahead of the expanded FIFA Club World Cup .
• There’s then a six-day break, during which no transfers can be completed.
• Phase 2 begins on Monday, 16 June 2025 and continues until 1 September 2025 at 7 PM BST
Honest truth. No, wouldn’t have him back.
Is he good? Yeah, he’s solid enough. Doesn’t show any sparkle at all though.
Worry about his temperament as well.
Alternatively maybe he was benched because he said he wouldn’t sign a new deal and didn’t apply himself in training after the move in January fell through.
Wish Joe Low all the best. Shame he’s gone to a divisional rival but we must’ve been preparing for this for some time…
