Rumour Mill

People have been declaring the gasroom to be shit ever since it was created, across every iteration. Or at least that’s my memory of proceedings, having been on here since about 2002.

This isn’t an attempt to dismiss legitimate concerns or feedback, which I hope users agree we have always tried to take on board.

We want to make this place both a welcoming space, and a hotbed of lively debate, which isn’t an easy balance, and we won’t please everyone.

Some aforementioned users may have left because they are disillusioned about the forum specifically. I know others departed because they felt disillusioned about what happened on and off the pitch in recent months, and just don’t intend to follow Wycombe Wanderers as closely.

I feel like each gasroom has broadly coincided with a significant zeitgeist shift within WWFC itself.

The original site came online as we established ourselves in the football league.

Dr Congo’s stewardship came in as we began to emerge out of the really bleak years of staring oblivion in the face. We lost some big users then (Mr Tattler, Eddie Monsoon et al) but the place continued to thrive.

This gasroom version comes in as we go through another profound cultural identity shift as a club. Some users will decide they’ve outgrown the new version of the site, or that the new version of the club has outgrown them.

We still have a core of 200+ very loyal and active users, and we hope our efforts are slowly growing it. On top of that we have thousands of occasional contributors, silent browsers and anonymous lurkers.

We’re all deeply passionate about the same thing, and it’s down to everyone to try and make this forum the place they want it to be.

If you want it to be kinder, or funnier, more surreal or even more serious, be the change you want to see please!

I think much of the negativity will dissipate significantly once the season gets underway and everyone has their fix of football.

Ramble over. COYB.

[Apologies folk. I was responding to a post earlier this afternoon but I can’t track it down]*

Hear hear - although I definitely won’t be going to fewer games ! For those who don’t know me, serious health issues (and antiquity) have prevented me from attending matches for several years. Thank goodness for WycombeTV.

  • PS it was @Alexo’s reaction to the interesting post earlier this afternoon from @AFCWycombe.

What was the point of this post?!? How, in anyway, is it helpful to the potential problem thats been mentioned or trying to help people to change their views to encourage more people to give their opinions when you give such a poor response?

I said what I said with all sincerity . I guess some people simply won’t move on. If me telling you that stops you coming on here so much I can’t help that . It’s how I feel when I read such negativity from so many people .

We did not collectively “hound them out” they walked away. Their incessant whining about Bloomfield’s departure got very tedious and some of us, me included, told them to “move on” which they seemingly were not prepared to do. For what it’s worth, I agree Bloomfield was treated poorly, but that unfortunately is in today’s world the owner’s prerogative.

I’m not sure why @glasshalffull1 left as he was usually supportive of the running of the club.

So do I

If the guy is being that morose about this forum and attaending matches. Nothing I say will make any differnce.

Actually the opposite. If you show such a lack of class and not reading the room (as you did), you’ll force them away more than what they were willing. If you tried to work with people then they might realise that they might have jumped the gun and return…..

Yes, I understand that this ownership is a changing of the guard, that some will never warm to them or will abandon the club in the hope they can comment in years to come saying “Told you so”. I also understand that some will be attracted to the club with the money being spent & (potentially) having the resources to make a real go at Championship football. However, by attacking or making those sat on the fence feel worse about themselves, you then become part of the problem

Don’t make me pull out my new catchphrase.

Any rumours?

I’m afraid you’ve lost me there.

Not to the Gasroom I hope. We can’t afford to further deplete the Gasroom establishment.

I heard a rumour that there may have been a discussion about an actual rumour on the rumour mill thread…but as said it was just a rumour…

Which bit?

All of it.

I’ve seen a rumour that the season starts next weekend.

Seems like it can’t come soon enough!

I’d like to think that @glasshalffull1 is in fact the real ‘glass half full’ and come the season start he will be back defending the indefensible like the chippy little scouser of old we’ve all grown to love.

I am not coming on The Gasroom less, I’m just posting less as the discussions seem more regularly to end in disagreements and mud slinging with threads going wildly off course with pages of arguments on people’s opinions on what others should be thinking.

It would seem quite a few others have decided to post less, maybe that’s linked to how people express their opinion, in my case it certainly is but I can’t talk for others.

The main problem is that too many people seem to be against the ownership group and Dodds, no matter what they do.

Credit where it’s due they’re genuinely trying to improve our club. But there are people on this forum who’ve decided Dodds is clueless, regardless of what he or Rice achieves.

That kind of constant negativity puts people off engaging. It’s no surprise some have stopped posting or even left altogether it gets tiring when everything feels so relentlessly downbeat.

It’s like if we signed Messi some would still complain we shouldn’t have signed the greatest player ever because he’s “too old.” That’s not healthy debate, that’s just moaning for the sake of it.

Sometimes onions are just onions no need to cry every time.
