One mans dick is another mans er…
Gasroom 1 existed in a state of more or less perpetual guerrilla warfare, but there was always a genuine camaraderie just beneath the surface.
Gasroom 2 spent most of its time dwelling in the sunlit uplands. When that sun set some of our major contributors really let themselves down.
Gasroom 3 is still finding its way. Winning games of football would help.
James Richings has taken a fair bit of stick on this and the previous incarnation of the Gasroom and some of it has no doubt been fully justified. He has been working on the Bucks Free Press for about four years and it’s therefore a bit of a stretch to refer to him as a young lad learning his trade as some have done.
I don’t think many would describe Jack Grimmer as a young lad. He and James (who greatly admires Jack) are the same age (31). James is aware of course that his reports have been criticised in some quarters (and I am certainly not squeaky clean in that respect) but as a linguist and amateur wordsmith I do love a blooper. The caption under the picture of Jack Grimmer and Mike Dodds in the supplement to Friday’s BFP was a very fine example. The perpetrator is unknown but it certainly wasn’t James Richings.
The perpetrator will probably be Chat GPT, judging by the sorry state of local newspapers. I was lucky enough to have a sub who caught many of my mistakes, and only introduced one or two of their own!
James Tilley set to sign
Seems unlikely / underwhelming, having made only one league appearance above league 2 at age 26.
Data will decide!
Reliable source? Nothing being reported elsewhere.
if this is the case then its going to be a very long season!
it must be exhausting being you
I’m just wondering whether Dan Rice and Mike Dodds have damaged our ‘brand’ more than some people realise. Most other L1 clubs have already announced new signings, but we have done nothing, not even rumours from a reliable source.
If I were a player’s agent, I would be saying to the player right now ‘Look, Wycombe Wanderers are interested in signing you, but I would be very wary of getting involved with them. Their CEO forced out their manager when they were riding high in the league, and the new man Dodds has introduced an ultra-defensive style of play which is driving away their fans, and caused them to fall out of the automatic promotion spots. I’d advise you to wait and see, there will be better options available’.
There might be some truth in that but remember that the players who have their contract expiring, still have 3 weeks to get something sorted. They aren’t in any rush, some clubs want to get things done early, others keep the cards close to their chest until they know the move will happen. Some agreements will prob have an NDA attached to them so they legally can’t announce anything
I see it as the opposite. I’m sure there is lots going on in the background. If you think of all the non-playing recruitment that went on last season, I see this as part of a revolution into building a well oiled machine.
And especially with FFP rules, I’m sure there are lots of NDA’s flying around to prevent bidding wars and agents spouting off on Twitter.
I don’t see the brand damaged either, money talks, and the ownership certainly are well placed there.
I could obviously be very wrong, but I feel we’re going to be rewarded with some nice surprises. Remember, the main transfer windows opens in just over a weeks time after Sunday so if nothing happens in this interim window, I don’t think there is anything to panic about.
Obviously it all depends on how many spondulicks Mikhail makes available to the recruitment team. We have no access to that kind of information, but it could be that we will only be recruiting from players with Champ level experience, or higher. Or we could be taking chances on non-league players like the King. Too early to tell.
Surely nobody uses ChatGPC or any other AI source to generate a caption. James is looking into it. He’s understandably unhappy to think that people might have thought that he was responsible for it.
The other day the Telegraph had to take down an article that was entirely false, but AI generated that they’d published under a real journalist’s name.
I’m starting to get a lot of AI slop websites being returned on search engines too.
I can understand an article being AI generated - we had some examples on the previous version of the Gasroom - but not a caption to a photograph, surely?
As someone who works in digital publishing, I can tell you that a lot of major websites are using AI to create content.
There is a war being fought around the ‘open web’ (e.g. websites such as the gasroom, which are not part of big platforms such as Meta/Twitter/Reddit).
The entire digital ecosystem is eating its own tail. Publishers produce original content, that is ingested and rehashed by AI without any benefit for the creator.
Then publishers create AI content, which is in turn ingested by AI models and rehashed again. This leads to degradation of the AI itself - also know model drift or collapse.
Simultaneously, search engines now generate AI responses to search queries, instead of driving users to publisher websites. This will cause the open web to further shrink - meaning less original content for AI to consume to create such responses.
I have no idea what the long term future holds, or even the mid term future. It may be beneficial for communities such as ours, where real humans produce real content. Or it could just further drive everyone into the big walled gardens and lead to a total collapse of independent websites and journalism.
Nathan Lowe being touted by the usual Wycombe twitter accounts of which we have allegedly made a loan request to Stoke.
