Emre Tezgel is clearly an excellent prospect. Comparisons are unnecessary, odious even.
Fred can fit in there too if he’s not filling in as a striker
Emre Tezgel, 16, is the Stoke City wonderkid who has been compared to Harry Kane and won same award as Jude Bellingham Verifying Device

Thats a link from an old article. My in laws are all Potters, and the hype about him as a youth was massive. He became Stokes youngest player at just over 16. And was playing England u17 then age groups up.
Lowe, while good, didn’thave remotely the same hype.
It doesn’t mean that hes better now or will have a better career. Just he was the higher rated prospect.
If you didnt have comparisons in football, it would be a hell of a lot more dull.
“Odious” seem a little strong to me.
Context is everything.
My maths is not very good in the morning, or at any time for that matter, my esteemed polymath!
I will resubmit my end of season league position as:
16 wins,14 draws and 16 losses goals for 66 goals against 66.
Trust I am now in tune!
Sorry @James . Not like me to be silly of course and it’s not my job to proof read other people’s posts but I was simply referring to @thedancingyak’’s omission of the word ‘not’ in his first paragraph. You’re right about Fred of course but we’d need to have an even worse injury situation in the back line than we have currently to depend on him to fill in.
That’s extremely strange, even by your offbeat standards.
Imagine not being able to compare players. That’s a big chunk of the conversations all year!
Think someone’s woken up grumpy again. To think comparing the skills of two players is odious is bizarre.
Duff started well and we had a long purple patch which brought us up to within a sniff of the playoffs. If you exclude the first 8 games and then look at the table we finished 8th. In that period we were 7 points behind Stockport, 6 behind Bolton and Plymouth, 3 behind Luton and 2 behind Bradford. A great effort but still short of the Playoffs.
You have Leicester who you would think will finish above us and I would expect the other two relegated teams to be in or around our area in the table, even with the issues they have for this coming season.
I also think the team finishing second in League 2 last season will be in or around us this season. Buying Nombe from Rotherham for 600k was business we could have looked at, proven at this level with 41 goals in his last 3 full seasons in League One from 117 games, all with teams in the lower section of the table too.
Waiting to see how our new players bed in and if Cook will be the steadying ship at the back. I am still not sure how Hazard will get on, Plymouth fans seem to think he was very poor for them, hoping he does well for us.
Absolutely, I’m sure I do it all the time but it’s difficult to make plausible comparisons of the respective qualities or potential of the two players based on hearsay, limited statistical evidence (for all that’s worth!) and without having seen one of them play more than half a dozen games and the other one a matter of minutes, in the course of which he was rather easily dispossessed.
Don’t take everything I say seriously or to heart. I love certain expressions and popular sayings and “comparisons are odious” * however irrelevant in this context just happens to be one of them. I’ve responded more constructively above.
*for what it’s worth, the expression dates back to 1440 (writer John Lydgate). and has remained remarkably popular ever since.
When you put yourself forward as the grammar and spelling aficionado and pick people up on the smallest of errors - most of the time in a completely humourless fashion - you should be able to forgive those that see your words and take them in a similarly humourless way and read them as as such.
Edit. Oh, we are meant to all understand the esoteric use of phrase from 500 years ago and realise you had your tongue in cheek. Suddenly it’s clearer.![]()
Oi I wasn’t bottom last season!
(Which basically shows what a somewhat disappointing season we had)
If I’m not bottom again this season it probably means;
A) we’ve had a poor season
Or
B) I have a bash on the head that makes me unusually positive about our results
And that is the reason we all bow to the maestro that is @micra
95 new posts! We must have finally bought a striker!
No.
We might have done. Who knows?
My dear boy (said he in characteristically patronisng fashion) I have to object as strongly as words permit to your contention that “I put myself forward as….” words weirdly missing from the quote above.
I’ve never put myself forward as anything other than a language loving obsessive Wanderers fan with a sense of humour that often depends on having a good understanding of those with whom I engage. It’s no secret that most of the fellow Gasroomers who have got to know and understand me on here and on the earlier iterations over nearly two decades are the people I give most likes to and receive most likes from in return.
I don’t know of course whether you take much notice of who gives you thumbs up but I think you’ll find that I feature fairly commonly.
On the grumpy front (!) you’re incredibly wide of the mark. As you probably know, I am an extremely slow typer and I spent at least an hour after I got up exchanging messages on messenger with a guy called Neil Summers who had posted a couple of really sensible and well written posts on Dave Gardner’s Friends of Wanderers Facebook page.
Neil lives in North Yorkshire now and, like me, watches matches from the comfort of his armchair. Far from being grumpy, I was delighted to be able to have an interesting exchange of views with someone of like mind and to have persuaded him to have more than the occasional glance at the Gasroom.
My reference was to @DevC For some reason his username hasn’t appeared in the quote.
Connor Hazard is a lovely guy. That we do know and I thought he looked fine on Saturday with a couple of good saves, no goofs and very good distribution, including that bullseye into a bucket from one of his less impressive clearances, met with the biggest cheer of the afternoon.
