I honestly think Tezgal is better than 90% of all strikers in the league. ( said without knowing them all) but, no one expected Ballard to get 20, Nothing pointed to Wareham bagging nearly 20.

I have absolutely no idea how Tezgel will perform for us. I’ve seen him twice in our friendlies. He was poor and sluggish against Portsmouth and looked more effective against Ipswich with a good poacher’s goal. He performed really well at Crewe.
Is he a minimum 15 goal a season striker at this level? From my limited exposure to him I can’t comment. But our only other option (in Duff’s eyes) appears to be Woodrow. We don’t want to be relying on a loan player who could either leave in January, get injured early in season or fail to deliver.

I keep thinking back to that glorious 3 or 4 months under Bloomfield. There were a number of reasons for the success. But the main one for me was Bloomfield’s use of attacking subs and a pre-set plan to bring on players at 60-65 minutes. His rotation of players, even Kone, was so effective and got the best out of everyone. I’d love to see us recruit players to allow us to rotate in attack not that I’ve seen this side to Duff’s management. I think Duff’s use of subs (pretty poor overall in his tenure) may be key to success (or lack of) this season.

Re. Scotty, I was only really thinking of FL era signings (first time round).
Was just thinking about how often a regular scorer had a reputation before joining us as opposed to finding their scoring touch with us.
I’m optimistic… Until proven otherwise lol.
I think we forget where we came from sometimes.
On paper at least… Look at the names… Morley, scowen, Onyedimna, cook… Plus others we now know can be superb players.
We are in a good place. We only got to the championship once… Before that we have hovered between league 1 and 2 for many many years.
This team, in my opinion with a couple of late editions probably happening has as good a chance as any team we have ever had of reaching the championship again.
Lighten up everyone! Come on! Lets get behind the boys and cheer them on to give it a real good go!!
I can’t see us for a second being anywhere close to being in a relegation fight so let’s all try to enjoy it!

Fred is going to tear up the league this season. I think we’ve taken for granted a little what a BIG DEAL it is for him re-signing for us. Can’t wait to see him in full flight a week Saturday when MD1 starts.

I hope you’re right because he is unplayable when he’s on it. I just hope he doesn’t burn out after Christams like he seems to have done in the last couple of seasons
That’s on the management though. Fred has burnt out/not been as good as earlier because there is no strength in depth up front/in attack and he’s been overloaded. 2nd most minutes last season and by quite some way.
Not good for our biggest attacking threat to play 90 regularly.
On current signings not much is going to change.

It’s a good point. We clearly need a couple more forwards and it’s a little dissapointing this hasn’t happened yet.
Whether we do could make the difference as to whether we finish mid table or top 6.

Fred the perfect example of what I’m saying in terms of strength in depth. Duff wants to use him for 90 minutes every week. He’s be far more effective being used for 65 minutes.

We sign a 20 goal a season striker to secure promotion to our rightful place in the Championship every year…it’s only right that people are concerned that at this late stage we have not secured one…and that X and Y ( though they are great guys) are not up to it
Some of the fees flying round are pretty insane (£1m+ for Abdulmalik from Borehamwood) so perhaps even Lommy has decided it’s best to shop more frugally.

I do think a bit of depth up front would not go amiss. Fink and Tezgel are young and lack experience, Fink out of favour. I’d personally be happy with a veteran, big man up front (a la Vokes) to support the youngster and be a reliable option in squad depth

It does make me smile when people band around the ‘20 goal striker’ ask. How many clubs at our level ever sign someone who are proven to have scored 15+ in the third tier or above? Would love to know how much that has ever happened in the last decade.

Prior to that - Scott/West obviously tore up non-league. In recent failed play-off campaigns we had Vokes on 16 (2021/22) and Kone 18 (2024/25).
Not suggesting we sign Matt Harold, but I think a bit of depth to support our attacking options would give us a great chance.
