Wycombe Wanderers Women

Honestly im not suprised. Hopefully will try and go to it

Just terrible news here, Vice Captain Danielle Puddefoot has suffered an ACL rupture and meniscus tear and will miss the remainder of the season.

That is very unfortunate. Given the amount involved, does the club, or WWF, have any medical insurance for their players, especially if the injury was sustained on training or playing duty?

Just saw the email come through and it does feel amazing that a player associated to the club has to find the money herself. Especially with a billionaire owner!

It would be nice if our wealthy club owners can help out here.

If she was playing for Wycombe when the injury occurred then surely we would have insurance.

It would be good to know the circumstances of the injury before we jump to conclusions.

I wish her a speedy recovery and hope she can get back to playing as she’ll be 34 by the time she can play again

Even grassroots clubs have insurances that cover players for many injuries that can occur in training and matches, as well as a league own policy too. Not talking millions of pounds here though! Hopefully the player can still carry out their day job so still has an income.

Does that mean flymo frank should have self funded the repair of his impromptu Toe amputation, or indeed forfeited any wage while he was recovering from a self inflicted injury?

There’s only one instance I can think of that a club might refuse to help treat an injury of a player that represents them and that would be if it happened during something illegal. But even then, for me, it would depend on the severity.

For 7.5k it should be a no brainer that the club puts its hand in its pocket and, at the very least, matches whatever is raised, if not pays for it outright - it’s just the right thing to do.

I would love to see a closer knit between the men and women’s sides. It maybe technically completely different but there should be one Wycombe Wanderers football club represented by multiple teams (which they will sell off to themselves help get around FFP. Yes I’m looking premier league teams)

Danielle says in her appeal that she suffered the injury during the Sponsors Cup match against Newport Pagnell Town.

ā€œā€¦ during our final preseason friendly, I suffered an injury that has completely changed my path for now.

At first, it didn’t seem too serious but after scans, I received the news every footballer fears, that I’ve ruptured my ACL, torn my meniscus, and sustained additional ligament damage as well as a patella tendon tear.ā€

That is disappointing to hear.

I wonder why she/Wycombe are not covered by insurance or the club can’t help. Would be good to understand why this situation has occurred.

Surely W3 are required to have at least some insurance?

If Lommy is too tight to cover the cost, perhaps one of Danielle’s friends could set up a crowd fund. I would certainly be happy to make a contribution. Perhaps Rice might even hand over a fiver. (Sorry I’m not strictly allowed to make any reference to our ā€œinterimā€ chairman now)!

This is the link to the crowd fund.

Many thanks. Just donated under Steve Smith. Looking at the donations to date, I think it’s very sad that Luke Leahy seems to be the only male player who has donated to date.

Jack & Luke both donated, as did Jack’s wife.

I made a donation too

I assume Rice’s contribution will have to wait until payday!

Probably because it wasn’t a competitive game so no league / competition insurance. It was literally just a friendly with a trophy / similar by one of the sponsors. Perhaps the sponsor involved could put their hand in their pocket? I’ve not seen the interview / article and unsure of the clubs insurance policy detail. But my understanding is that the women’s team are run by the Trust and not the club so it’s the Trust who would have sight of the policy.

A side issue to all this is about sick pay which not everyone is fortunate enough to have with their employer. Income Protection policies which pay out when you are ill or unable to work are available for self employed and employed workers even with physical roles. I work in this field so I’d expect the risk and premium to be higher than someone working in an office, and aside from the operation cost I really hope she is going to be able to get by financially if she cannot work

The Trust used to run W3 but the Foundation are responsible for them now, although the Trust still help fund them.

Ok I see, thanks for clarifying @StevePeart . Am I right in thinking that the foundation is a charitable arm so to speak rather than a part of WWFC as an entity?
